Why train?

When I tore my calf muscle 5 days after the 2017 Eau Claire 1/2 marathon, I was devastated. My training plans/goals abruptly changed.

I couldn’t run anymore.

I ended up participating in a community fitness program through the university which gave me a personal trainer & customized workout plan. The training was different (no more running), but it was exactly what I needed at that time. Although my path to physical health & wellness had shifted, it was OK because I had a person and program to keep me going.

A person and a program.

What if we approached our faith this way? What if instead of trying to do everything the same, we started training to get spiritually fit? (1 Tim. 4:8) What if instead of passive church attendance, we started practicing the way of Jesus with a few key people? Training in gratitude, rest, solitude, margin, conversation, prayer, study, discipline, generosity and service of others.

Have things shifted for you? Are you at a different place spiritually? Does your faith require a new plan to keep growing? If so, we encourage you to find a person and a program. It doesn’t have to be Jesus Fit. The important thing is to not just absorb content or attend events, but to work on developing spiritual habits/daily practices with the encouragement of a person/group.

On the journey,

Bryan
